Tom Hardy has been cast as Venom !!

Sony Pictures released a tweet which broke the news earlier today. This makes me officially exited as hell for this project. Tom Hardy is damn fine catch for Sony.

When I wrote about the revived Venom project in march last year , Tom Hardy was my first choice to play Eddie Brock ( ahead of Jake Gyllenhall , who I believe was up for the Spider-man role at one point) Now that he is cast I can rest a little bit easier. I stated earlier that i believe a Venom movie with no connection to Spider-Man would be doomed from the start. I still say Sony should connect the characters somehow, and who knows, maybe their deal with Marvel will allow them to introduce the alien costume in one of the upcoming Infinity War movies ? Likely not…

Im willing to bet that Hardy is going to bulk up quite a lot for the role, which is the way it should be. Eddie is a beast ! Not some skinny 70s guy.

Another huge negative is the producers. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal. These people are no good. Especially Avi Arad who is just happy to get something onscreen regardless of quality.

I still hope that they will base the film on the Sinner Takes All story. Early days, but with the film slated for release next year we will hopefully not have to wait too long for information to leak. It is Sony after all 🙂

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) is set to direct the film, and its slated for release  October 5, 2018

Writers Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain,) & Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) will try to write the script, and lets pray to the FSM that they do a better job than some of their earlier screenplay credits. There is a chance that when Hardy reads the script, he will bail on the project. Just like what happened when he left Suicide Squad…..Production on Venom will begin this fall. And I can´t wait to see it !
