escapeheader

The BMW film series “The Hire” was a series of eight short films (averaging about ten minutes each) produced for the Internet in 2001 and 2002. A form of branded content, the shorts were directed by popular filmmakers including Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Ang Lee; Joe Carnahan, Wong Kar-wai, Guy Ritchie, John Woo and the late John Frankenheimer and Tony Scott .

Clive Owen starred as “the Driver” in these shorts, and now he returns for “The Escape”.

20th Century Fox Boards Sci-Fi Project The Leviathan

Lets hope they don’t FOX it up.

Leviathan

20th Century Fox has picked up the project to become a feature film.

Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, “Star Wars Rebels”) is on board to produce the film along with Neill Blomkamp (with whom Kinberg produced Elysium and Chappie) as executive producer. Ruairi Robinson will direct from a script by Jim Uhls (Fight Club).

Here’s a synopsis for the film, which takes cues from literary sources such as “Moby Dick” and “Dune”: “By the early 22nd century mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light travelwas made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor.”

And this trailer is obviously worth posting again

Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp Join Ruairi Robinsons The Leviathan

Leviathan

Last week, I put up director Ruairí Robinson’s stunning sci-fi proof-of-concept short The Leviathan. Now, according to Deadline,  writer/producer Simon Kinberg has come on board to produce the film along with writer/director Neill Blomkamp as executive producer.

Quite a fairly formidable team, and thats just a few of the big name producers who courted Robinson after The Leviathan blew up the internet with nearly 2 million views across Vimeo and YouTube, impressive for a project with no studio, name talent or IP attached to it.

This is worth watching again folks !!

Im proper excited for this !!!

@MichaelBiehn Confirmed For @NeillBlomkamp ‘s Aliens

Hicks’ return is official !!

alien4

Michael Biehn has confirmed that, as was widely expected and hoped, he will indeed be joining Neill Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver on their surprise new jaunt to the Alien universe. Hicks is officially back.

Biehn actually made his announcement a couple of weeks ago, but it seems to have gone widely unnoticed because he hadn’t made his Instagram profile public. I would have missed it anyway because I have no Instagram.

“It’s official,” Biehn says. “I will be reprising my role as ‘Cpl.’ (Not for long…) Dwayne Hicks. With the go-ahead, Hicks will return with Ripley in mid 2017. Perhaps Hicks and Ripley well eventually get to second base in this one…”

Not for long huh.  Could that mean that our heroes make it back to earth, Hicks gets promoted and that they go back out to kill Aliens ??  Seems a stretch that Ripley would take another trip doesn’t it ? Anyway…..

Biehn has since implied that he expects to be shooting in July, and has said he won’t be at August’s Sheffield Comic-Con due to Alien scheduling conflicts. Is production really getting underway that soon? Pre-production began in February, but it’s not even apparent that there’s a screenplay yet.

Blomkamp’s still-untitled Alien sequel will pick up after James Cameron’s Aliens, and it remains unclear whether the director will pay any sort of chronological lip service to Alien 3 or ignore it completely (Resurrection is less of a problem, continuity-wise, since it takes place much further in the future).

Somebody wake up Hicks! Blomkamp to ignore Alien 3 and 4

alien2 alien4

So this is what i was hoping Blomkamp would do. I mentioned it HERE . The fact he featured Michael Biehn´s Hicks character in his artwork did suggest it was they way he was going with it. Now Neil has confirmed that his idea is indeed to wipe Alien 3 and 4 from the timeline, and make a continuation from Aliens

“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of ‘Alien,’” says the director. “So it’s ‘Alien,’ ‘Aliens’ and then this movie.”

I wonder then if they might factor Newt into this?  Possibly not. I did think that maybe he could do a story where the Sulaco was intercepted by the “company” and Ripley Hicks and Newt were somehow kept “asleep”  but not really in stasis  since they would have to age.  The alien ship also features in Blomkamps art . It might be the original retrieved from LV-426, or it could be another ship just like it.  I do hope they keep this separate from Ridleys Scotts Prometheus 2   aka Noomi and Heads excellent adventure .

Its really early days of course , but i do really hope that Michael Biehn comes back. And i guess Lance Henriksen is in the mix also?

Neill Blomkamp is now officially making an Alien Sequel

The news comes from the man himself, via something called Instagram? Is that a thing ?

alien

He posted a series of concept art designs for a new film in the 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise way back when, and although the filmmaker admitted that the designs were unofficial, he hinted that he’d be more than happy to take on such a project.  And now it looks like the studio is on board with the idea.  20th Century Fox has confirmed the news, clarifying that this is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel currently set for release March 4, 2016.

Sigourney Weaver is likely to return as Ellen Ripley. The two are currently finishing up on Blomkamps latest film Chappie.

That last image of Ripley with an alien head, or whatever is only image i really dislike.

My hope is that Blomkamp is making his own continuation of the events after Cameron’s ALIENS. I liked Alien3 but thought the fourth film was totally screwed up on all levels. And according to this quote by the director, I think that may be his idea too .

“Alien and Aliens are probably my favorite films so was I was like, ‘Sh*t, I wouldn’t mind messing around in that world for a bit’ so I just sort of self-funded the artists to work on the artwork. I did way more artwork than I released, probably ten times more and did a lot of writing. I have a pretty cool film just in case it happens.”

I hope Michael Biehn is available ………..
