This week saw a slew of new teaser, trailers, castings and announcements. As always here on BSS the focus was heavily on Comic Book Movies . Lets recap shall we.

I say funny !!
Whats the entire film at FUNNYORDIE
Johnny Depp has joined the Universal Monsterverse. He will play H.G. Wells’ iconic creation, The Invisible Man. The classic tale of a scientist who turns himself invisible, losing his sanity in the process.
There is no writer or director attached to the project yet, but with Depp set to star I’m sure that will help to sway a director or two. Tim Burton ? Kevin Smith ? Who knows ?
It’s early days for this new cinematic universe, but Universal has tried and failed with some of these monster icons already. The Wolfman (2010) failed, and Dracula Untold (2014) should have remained untold.
Universal has hired Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan to revive the monsters that were the studio’s stock in trade during the golden age of Hollywood
The plan now is to have a new monster movie to come out every year. The first of these, based on the character of the Mummy starring Tom Cruise, and directed by Kurtzman, with other pictures centered on Dracula, Van Helsing, and the Wolfman to follow. There has also been talk of Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie joining the fray as the Bride Of Frankenstein. But this is a far off, since no word has yet been made on Frankenstein.
My problem with the “monster” movies that have been tried and failed so far centers on the fact that Universal seems to have forgotten that these are MONSTERS. They have tried to make these creatures SEXY. Now in the case of Dracula I guess it’s part of his character in a way, but it’s only ever a disguise . He is a first and foremost a bloodsucking murdering monster. If they go the “sexy pg-13” route , then i fear that this universe will fail horribly.
Vampires don´t sparkle !!!
Alice Through the Looking Glass, is a sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland.
Returning cast from the original are Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonhan Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Sacha Baron Cohen plays a new character called Time whose powers allow Alice to visit the Wonderland characters at different times in their lives.
Directed by James Bobin from a script by Linda Wolverton, Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
Here is the new trailer for director Scott Cooper’s crime drama Black Mass, which boasts an impressive cast including Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller and Adam Scott.
Admittedly the first teaser trailer was much better , but this still looks like a great crime drama, and as i previously noted, the cast is very solid. I said after seeing the teaser that this looks to be a triumphant return to form for Johnny Depp. If this film is as good as I HOPE it is it might even be Depps Oscar Winner right here. And since I am all but certain that the new pirates movie will be another suckfest , Johnny sure needs this to be a great one after the string of flops he has been involved with the last few years.
Directed by Scott Cooper (Wildheart) Black Mass hits the theaters on September 18.
“In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.”
Holy shit what a cast. And this might be one of the best god damn trailers i’ve seen in a long long time. Now i’ve been saying for years that Johnny Depp should just quit already. Hes done so many bad movies that it really started to hurt. I watched 1 min 42 seconds of Mordecai before turning that shit off, and the upcoming Pirates movie can suck a big blue dick. But this ….. this looks GREAT. Depp looks great. Im scared of this character already. Depp takes on the role of real life crime boss Whitey Bulger in the new crime drama Black Mass from Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. Depp looks more creepy balding and with blue eyes than he has as any of his other characters.
This looks like it might be Johnnys Oscar Winner right here. WATCH :
Black Mass is directed by Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace, Crazy Heart) and written by Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow, Get on Up) and newcomer Mark Mallouk. In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history. Benedict Cumberbatch, Adam Scott and more star in the film Warner Bros. Pictures releases this fall September 18th. Interested? I sure am.
I don’t know him….. and the last movie was utter shit. And those Norwegians are hacks.
Rumored to have been up for the part late last month Brenton Thwaites has, according to a story at The Wrap, got the role of “Henry” in the upcoming blockbuster franchise sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Thwaites joins the returning Johnny Depp, back as Captain Jack Sparrow. Javier Bardem, as previously reported, is also said to be in talks to take on the film’s villain, Captain Brand. According to this latest update, Brand’s character is a ghost hellbent on getting revenge against Sparrow, blaming the rake for the death of his brother.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set for a Queensland, Australia production. Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will direct with Jerry Bruckheimer back to produce. Look for it in theaters July 7, 2017.
Seriously. Johnny Depp has let me down so many times now that I can´t really get my hopes up for anything he has coming out.
He does have INTO THE WOODS coming out for Disney, but that really isnt a movie for me. I do still say that Disney could make that a huge hit if they decide to attach a teaser trailer for Star Wars to it. I had a look at the trailer for it, and was left thinking that maybe that movie would have been better as a traditional Disney drawn animation film ? Just a thought.
