I must admit I thought this was a joke when I read the headline. A Death Wish remake is bad enough, but a Death Wish remake starring Bruce Willis is just laughable. Now its not that the character that Charles Bronson played needed that much acting chops anyway. In fact it looked like Bronson didn’t even try to act in those films. He just said his (few) lines, shot the bag guys , and did the occasional duck from oncoming gunfire .
I just have a hard time seeing Bruce in that role. The immediate fear is that he is just gonna do his John Mcclane routine. The one from the last two films mind you, not the one from the original when the character was an actual human being , and there was a director at the helm that knew how to direct a film.
This Israeli team of directors are also unknown to me. I have not seen their film Big Bad Wolves , but I would say they deserve better than having a Bruce Willis film as their first outing in Hollywood. Produced by the guy who made the Rush Hour films no less. These guys are in for a challenge. Be warned Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. Be warned.
The original was made for an impressive $3 million dollars back in the day. That would get them Bruce Willis on set for 3 days today. Its gonna be fun to watch this thing develope. Im guessing New York will not be the location . Unless they make it period piece from the time when New York was a shithole with out of control crime , and gang warfare. That might actually be a good idea. So lets just put that right out of our minds shall we.
Bruce Willis will star in director John Pogue’s upcoming action thriller Wake. The announcement was made today by International Film Trust’s co-founder Michael Benaroya and IFT’s President Christian de Gallegos. Wake‘s screenplay is written by Chris Borrelli (upcoming The Vatican Tapes)
Wake tells the story of Red Forrester (Willis), a sociopath with no fear, who returns to his childhood home on a remote island for his brother’s wake. When the island comes under siege, Red must save the very family that banished him from his ancestral home years ago.
“With a history of writing suspenseful and tension driven films, John Pogue is an imposing director to watch and we are really excited to be working on WAKE with him and Bruce – who, himself, is a force to be reckoned with,” said Benaroya.
“‘Wake’ is the perfect project for Bruce Willis to lead as the action star we know and love,” said de Gallegos. “His character will excite worldwide audiences and give us another taste of the big screen legend who remains amongst the top box office performers of all time.”
Willis will next be seen in Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah opposite Bill Murray and Zooey Deschanel.
What’s the harm in having a little fun ??
This looks kind of cool. The story is about a futuristic resort where people can do pretty much whatever they want. Robbery, murder and rape etc. The resort is populated by robots who or all intensive purposes look like real humans. Then of course…. something goes wrong. One of the robots becomes self-aware and escapes, and she finds herself caught in the crossfire between mercenaries and a cop (Jane) who is hell-bent on shutting down Vice, and stopping the violence once and for all. Its reminiscent of Westworld i guess, but without the old west part. Have a look at the trailer and judge for yourselves
Scripted by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore (who previously worked with Miller and Willis on The Prince) and produced by Randall Emmett, George Furla, Adam Goldworm and Steven Saxton,VICE hits theaters and On Demand January 16, 2015.
