J.J. Abrams Broke His Back While Filming Star Wars : The Force Awakens

We all know Harrison Ford broke his ankle last year while filming  The Force Awakens. But what didn’t leak out from the secretive set is that director J.J. Abrams also broke his back at the same time, while he was trying to help Ford.

Ford, reprising his role as Han Solo, broke his ankle when the hydraulic door of the Millennium Falcons accidentally pushed down, bending the actor’s ankle 90 degrees ( ouch ). Abrams explained on Thursday night’s Daily Show, that he too got injured at the same time, breaking his back as he was trying to help lift the door after Ford injury.

Abrams didn’t tell anyone about his own injury, he told Stewart, revealing he wore a back brace under his clothes. And, Abrams explained, Ford seemed to recover much faster than he did.

“The guy is like a real life superhero,” Abrams said of Ford. He explained that a few months later, he was still wearing the back brace when, “Harrison Ford, from across the stage, sprints at me faster than I will ever run. And he’s like, ‘Hey JJ!’ And I’m like, ‘Hi, Harrison Ford.’ Ooh it hurts to talk that way. I felt like the most nebbishy Jewish director ever.”

Stewart wondered why no one noticed what would seem to be a bulge under Abrams’ clothes, but the director said it actually held everything in, like Spanx.

“I felt a little bit like I was on Baywatch,” Abrams said.

The Force Awakens is a continuation of the saga created by George Lucas set thirty years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi . It stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford , Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou.

Benicio Del Toro is apparently up for the part to play a villain in a galaxy far, far away. The Wrap says an offer has gone out to the Academy Award winner to play the villain in director Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Very little is known about the eighth “Saga” chapter of the franchise other than that Johnson is attached to both write and direct. And thats really all we do know, because Episode VII is so shrouded in secrecy that we don´t even know what where or who on that movie either except for what the trailer has shown us. Del Toro  recently starred as The Collector in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. He was also rumored to be up for the villain role in Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness back in 2011.

Del Toro is an actor with range, having appeared in movies like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Traffic, 21 Grams, and the scene stealing Fenster in The Usual Suspects . The Star Wars sequel trilogy could turn out to have some memorable on-screen villainy for real. He’ll flip yo’. Flip yo’ for real.
