Ron Howard will step in to finish the Han Solo Star Wars spin-off movie after the previous directors were fired by LucasFilm.
Ron Howard was one of two names floating around yesterday as a possible new director of Lucasfilm and Disney’s untitled Han Solo movie. Now its done deal as the official announcement has been made by producer Kathleen Kennedy.
“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step inn to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie.”
The news comes two days after directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the movie they had spent four-and-a-half months directing. The firing came as a huge surprise to fans and movie pundits alike as the movie was about three-quarters through principal photography. The movie was scheduled to shoot for three-and-a-half more weeks, with five weeks of reshoots built into the schedule — which has become more or less standard procedure on large franchise productions these days.
I wonder if they even considered George Lucas ? Anyway, by and large this a movie which I really never saw any point in making to begin with. Some things are best left alone, and the back story to such an iconic screen character is definitely one such thing. The cast all seem pretty good, and Im sure the movie will be alright. But still, I just think there is so much else they could have made from the vast Star Wars universe. I guess we will have to wait and see how it all turns out. maybe we will get a glimpse of some footage or a teaser trailer to go with the upcoming Episode 8 The Last Jedi in december ?
The untitled Han Solo film is slated for release on May 25, 2018.
