The next Doctor Who was announced following the Wimbledon finals this afternoon . After months of speculation the actor stepping into the role of the Time Lord is Jodie Whittaker.
She will be the first woman to take on the role proper ( so long as we don´t count Joanna Lumley from the Red Nose Day special ) Whittaker rose to fame in ITV’s crime drama Broadchurch, and she had been touted as one of the contenders.
Whittaker said: “I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey. It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
The news has been met with overwhelming praise online, but it has been somewhat soured by femenazi trolls who seem to be taking what should be a celebration, and twisting it into attacks on “misogynists” who just don´t seem to be around. Ive scrolled through some of the twitter treads and there just isn’t any of these “hateful” comments around. What there is in abundance though are troll comments directed at these “hateful” comments. Its like these femanazi trolls are just preemptively attacking “phantom comments” which is really sad when you think about. I saw one tweet saying:
” This is a big fuck you to all those haters who say women should not be in sci fi”
Now that would be a comment I could get behind, but the fact is there are no such comments to be found. And women in sci fi has NEVER been an issue. RIPLEY…..1979 !!!!! I could go on and on naming prominent female scifi characters. They are basically taking over the Star Wars universe at the moment:)
Why sour a day of joy like this. Trolls will be trolls I guess. I wouldn’t be surprised if these trolls have never seen an episode of Doctor Who. There is a particular insanity which people like this usually suffer from. Its just sad. Fake Outrage basically .
But enough about the femenaziTrolls.
The new season of Doctor Who will see the Jodie re-team with Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall who will take over from Steven Moffat as executive producer. Explaining how she won the part, she said
“We had a strange chat earlier this year where he tricked me into thinking we were talking about Broadchurch.
“And I started to quiz him about his new job in Wales, and asked him if I could be a baddie. And he quickly diverted the conversation to suggest I should consider auditioning to be the 13th Clooney.
“It was the most incredible chat because I asked every question under the sun, and I said I’d take a few weeks to decide whether I was going to audition.”
When asked if she had been given any advice from previous actors who had played the role, Whittaker said: “Well they can’t because they haven’t known until now, but I’m certainly expecting a couple of calls – I’ve got a couple of mates in there.
So who should play the companion now then ? Should they go with a male ( BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ) or should they go with a female team up ala Xena Warrior Princess ( a show that never happened according to feminazi trolls )
